Choral Evensong: An Evening of Thanksgiving and Remembrance.
Featuring the music of Vivaldi and Purcell
Performed by the choir and soloists of St. Mary’s Church,
accompanied by chamber orchestra,
under the direction of Dr. Gordon Turk, world-renowned organist.
Choral Evensong is one of the most enduring traditions of the Anglican Church. This beautiful service will offer music of two of the most celebrated baroque composers of Italy and England, including Antonio Vivaldi’s joyful Magnificat for soloists, chorus, and orchestra, and Vivaldi’s Beatus vir (Psalm 112). It will also feature Purcell’s Evening Hymn for soprano, cello, and organ, and the anthem Rejoice in the Lord (also called the “Bell Anthem”) for orchestra, three soloists, and chorus. Purcell’s famous “Rondeau” (from Abdelazer) will conclude the evening’s music.
