Rossini Concert - Sunday March 15th, 4:00pm

St Mary’s Masterworks Chorale and Soloists will perform Rossini’s dramatic sacred composition “Stabat Mater”.

This poetic text of the Middle Ages presents the heart-rending emotions of Mary, the Mother of Jesus, as she stands at the foot of the Cross. The music was composed by one of the greatest composers of Italian opera of the 19 th century, and it makes exciting and virtuoso demands of the soloists and chorus.

Guest tenor for this concert will be Ronald Naldi, veteran performer of the Metropolitan Opera, NYC. The concert will begin with the aria “Lamentation” the expressive finale of the ‘Jeremiah Symphony’ by 20th century composer Leonard Bernstein; it will be sung by mezzo-soprano Laura Zahn. The musicians will be conducted by Dr. Turk, who will also be transcribing and playing the dramatic orchestral accompaniment on the organ for this performance.
