This summer St. Mary's has targeted 10 windows on the Church and 12 on the Parish House whose exterior wood frames need to be prepped and painted by volunteers. Many windows also need to be cleaned and protective plexi-glass restored and polished. Workdays will be on select Saturday mornings from 8am-1pm and Wednesdays from 1pm-5pm (followed by a church picnic!). There are tasks for all skill levels, from providing refreshments and moral support, simple cleaning and buffing, all the way up to scaling tall ladders with scrapers and paintbrushes in hand. Sign up in the Narthex or Navajo room at coffeehour and bookmark this post for scope of work and schedule updates.

This Saturday June 6, 8am - 1pm, we have 4 volunteers signed up:

Starting at 8am - We will be tackling the Scraping, Sanding and Prep for the first 3 church windows on the schedule - Windows 15, 16 and 26 whose stained glass images depict St. Stephen, St. Peter and the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple respectively. The Priming and Painting for these Windows will occur next week on Wednesday starting at 1pm.
The work order for the day will be as follows:
Safety Meeting
Role Selection and Tasking
Tool & Safety gear distribution
Method Demonstration
Cleaning/Plexi Restorers Start
Scrapers Start
Sanding Start
Clean Up
Lunch
If you have any questions or suggestions on the process you can email Tom Kelleher, or give him a call 808-221-0742 or ask them as we get started Saturday morning.
Please encourage others to visit this Post to learn more about the program, reference a current schedule and opportunities to volunteer. The sign up sheet will be in the Narthex Sunday mornings and the Navajo Room between Sundays.
Thank you all for volunteering!

Project Brief:
Issue: Paint on the exterior wood frames and sills has degraded, leaving wood bare and exposed to the elements.
Benner & Sons was hired to repair any wood that had rotted, been damaged by insects or fallen away entirely.
Now it is up to us to restore the windows with protective paint!
It takes teamwork: There are many roles to fill in a project like this, from parishioners with handyman skills to energetic laborers carrying supplies, those able to wield a paintbrush or a cleaning rag and also anyone willing to support the workers with refreshments and encouragement. With many windows requiring work on extension ladders, those especially not afraid of heights are needed as well as those who are but can hold a ladder!
Which role do you want to fill?
1. Support & Hospitality
2. Window Cleaning + Plexiglass restoring
3. Jobsite Cleaners + Ladder Holders
4. Brushwork - Priming + Painting
5. Applying protection (Tape/Peel Away)
6. Scraping
7. Sanding
8. Working at Height
9. Sponsor - Gift funds for supplies
St. Mary’s is also looking to recruit outside volunteering groups willing to participate in this community effort to help beautify our church. If you know of anyone looking to get on board with a project like this please get them in touch with Fr. Conor!
